Practice will be canceled (turns out cancelled and canceled are both acceptable spellings) on Wednesday, August 24, as Tumalo Creek and Kayak will be having their Pickin’ & Paddlin’ event. This is a great event, and, since they are always so supportive of our club, if you feel so inclined, please do attend. Details below.
Those of you who can, please be prepared to spend a bit of extra time this evening, as we need to load the 2 Mirage’s on the trailer tonight in preparation for the Gorge Race this coming weekend. The 2 Bradley’s will be left for practice.
As always, there will be refreshments in the back of my truck.
Practice is Wednesday morning at 5:45 am sharp. No practice Wednesday night due to Pickin and Paddlin. You need to be able to stay in the boat until 7:00 am at a minimum. If you can not, it is disruptive to the training to stop to drop folks off. First come first serve. If you are late and no seats, you won’t be able to have a seat that morning. If you are unable to make this practice, cross training on a kayak or SUP is great. Followed by swimming as the next best alternative.
This weekend is the Subaru Gorge Games on the river. There are SUP races starting at 10 am. There will be folks on the water dropping buoys etc. Therefore we will not be training on Saturday morning. We are rescheduling our weekend training session to Sunday morning at 8:00 am.
BOO will be hosting a clinic, this Saturday, June 4, with Lori Jorgenson. If you have already signed up, please show up at 7 AM (or a bit earlier) ready to paddle, and with a check for $60 made out to Bend Oregon Outrigger (or cash) and give it to Meg. If you would like to get in on the clinic, please contact me or Meg. This will take the place of our normal Saturday practice. Looking forward to seeing you.
This weekend, BOO will participate in the Rooster Rock Race at Rooster Rock State Park, just outside Portland on the Columbia River. We are taking two canoes as we have 2 women’s teams, 1 men’s, and, likely, 2 novice/mix short course crews competing. Attendance and training at practices has been stupendous. Everyone is very much looking forward to the race (I know I am) and competing with our BOO ohana. See you at the race.
Practices have been amazing with 4 boats out at most of the practices. Between experienced paddlers who have found the club and new-novice paddlers, Bend Outrigger is overflowing with great enthusiasm and vigor.
This weekend, Saturday April 23, 2016, We will head to Vancouver, WA for the annual Rusty Iron hosted by Pacific Outrigger Canoe Club. This year we are planning on taking (at least) 3 boats, including a women’s open, women’s masters and men’s crew. We sat our race crews on Monday’s practice and will again on Wednesday, followed by some “cheer” as we unrig and load boats for the trek to Washington.
I’m excited as can be about this first race with BOO and the whole team seems to be right with me. See you at practice.
