In 1991, Dave and Meg Chun, the founders of Kialoa Paddles, formed The Central Oregon Outrigger Canoe Club around a strong, woman-centered core of endurance athletes that shared a common bond over Hawaiian experience and the importance of teamwork and community. The woman's crews experienced success in many races throughout the Pacific Northwest and West Coast. In 1996, there was a boost in men's involvement and the club became Bend Oregon Outrigger Canoe Club (BOO).  The club held the Hawaiian spirit strongly together until COVID almost shut it down; but through the perseverance of leadership and members, BOO is making a stronger comeback!
